The Season in Numbers

The Season in Numbers

Dave Brown21 Oct - 15:42

A numerical summary of the season

Whether as a team or individually, cricket produces outcomes in terms of statistics and numbers. Here is a review of the numbers that matter for the 2024 season.

As a club and the teams that represent the club, the number that matters is how many times we win!! Unfortunately, the 2024 season did not produce very high numbers in this category.

Firstly, the disappointing stat is that a massive 15 of our scheduled 84 games were cancelled – most due to weather but also due to either us or our opposition not being able to raise sides.
Of the remaining 69 matches we won just 26 (38%), lost 42 and drew 1. Congratulations to the Women’s 1st XI who produced the best win percentage of 50%. A full break down by team is shown below.

In total, 121 players represented the club on the field of play in 2024. In total a Chenies batter went to the crease 637 times. 110 of those resulted in red ink so we lost our wicket 527 times. 92 of those innings resulted in a duck, but in the course of all those innings we scored 10,557 runs and 54 innings concluded with a score greater than 50. There were 42 half centuries and 12 centuries. The biggest individual score was Stefan Saleem’s 193, followed by 180 from Roshan Dias.

The bowlers sent down 2,491.4 overs, that is 14,950 deliveries (excluding extra balls bowled for no-balls and wides!!). 9% of the overs bowled (224) were maidens. Collectively we conceded 12,189 runs but took 476 wickets. Our bowlers managed just 2 five wicket hauls – one each for Alex Walker and Deepesh Patel. In the field we took 180 catches (and dropped plenty!!) with the wicket keepers adding 46 further catches and 7 stumpings.

Below is the final stat attack of the season, listing the leading performers across all senior cricket for the year. Also, attached is an Excel file which shows all the individual season statistics by team and at the total level (one tab for each). Just use the filters at the top of each page to peruse the data.
