All the updates from around the club

On Saturday the 1st XI travelled to Hillingdon Manor where the hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first. Alex Martin made 42 but got little support and Chenies were skittled for 113, a target that the hosts lost just 2 wickets chasing down.

The 2nd XI welcomed High Wycombe to the CCG for what was a must win game for us. This was a toss to win, as we know this deck well, however we lost the toss and unsurprisingly, the visitors decided to stick the pads on. Aayush Mehta opened the bowling attack and had 2 quick wickets in succession from his second over, with a hat-trick ball that was kept out by the watchful number 4 bat. With some tight bowling from the other end, the visitors looked keener to survive than to score making it to the drinks break at 63 for 2 off the 20 overs. It was another one of the young quicks, Anosh Mahawaduge who came on and helped shape the game. Despite a couple of unfortunate dropped catches going against him, he fought back well and finished with 2 for 41. With a great run out by Ravi Sainani to remove their best bat, it was left to Aayush, who picked up another 2 wickets in his second spell, (another hat-trick opportunity) finishing with figures of 4/38. With only 192 for victory, the Chenies openers started in aggressive fashion. Gaurang Patel making a solid 29 with a 60+ run opening stand with Ravi Sainani. After losing 2 wickets quickly, it was left to Ian Gilmour 71 not out and Ravi 78 not out to get the 192 with 8 wickets in hand and 10 overs to spare. A well-deserved victory all set up by a fantastic bowling unit, and a home ground that is a pleasure to bat on.

The 3rd XI welcomed Maidenhead and Bray 6th XI for a friendly, since there was no league game. The strategy was to identify one or two gems to be utilised in the rest of the season to strengthen our position in the league. I am proud to say that we have found not one or two but a few secret weapons! We will definitely be utilising their strengths to climb up the league table. This was the first time the team offered an opportunity to three U15 girls at the same time (Ashmi, Avani and Shayna). It was also the first time the team played without any wicket keeper. Chenies won the toss and as always looked to play on their strength of bowling first. Chenies gave opportunities to new bowlers including girls and the result was outstanding. Vaibhav opened from one end and struck a couple of early wickets while Dharmendra supported from the other end to keep it very tight conceding only 30 in the first 10 overs for 2. Ashish and Shayna took on the next 10 overs. Ashish (recently recovered from his shoulder surgery) struck mighty with his magic shoulder and took 3 wickets conceding only 14 runs, while Shayna bowled excellently from the other end with best economy rate 1.20. Hemendra and Ashmi took on the next 10 overs. Both kept it very tight and it was good to see some good cricket by a young lad from the oppo. Avani and Satish bowled a deadly spell of the last 10 overs. Avani took 2 good wickets and here we unearthed our nuclear weapon Satish taking 3 wickets in one over to limit oppo to 136 only. It was a great fielding standard overall by the team, especially pleasing to hear from the opening batsman talking to the non-striker about being cautious to snatch singles where Ashmi was fielding, experiencing her straight throw in the previous over. Special mention to Avani who stepped up and kept wicket for the first 20 overs and kept it very tight. Here we also unearthed another secret weapon Vaibhav, not just he took two early wickets but he kept wicket for the 2nd half and took 3 outstanding catches. I envy Vaibhav for filling the opponents score sheet with his name! Well done mate! The 2nd innings was very straightforward and short for the summary. Gaurav and Harsh opened with some spectacular display of fireworks all around the ground and scored 72 in the 12 overs. This is when Gaurav fell for 29 and Dharmendra joined the party. Harsh and Dharmendra continued the display of fireworks and secured the win in the 21st over. Harsh, awaiting this moment, secured his first glorious 50 for the club and remained not out at 68, despite fracturing his thumb while fielding.

It was a sunny Sunday in Slough and the women’s team were looking to follow up on last week’s win. Slough won the toss and chose to bat first. The opposition got off to a strong start, batting aggressively and scoring over 30 runs in the first five overs. However, Ruth Barker took a stunning catch–on her debut with the Women’s 1st XI–off a delivery from Shayna Patel. A wicket each for Aarushe Singh and Gurleen Grewal (caught by Shayna) before drinks dampened the opposition’s attack. A pep talk from captain Emily Brown invigorated the team and led to very precise fielding in the second half of the innings, the highlight being Amelia Peck’s catch off Gill Braddock’s bowling. Shayna and Ashmi Mehta also took a wicket each. Slough were limited to a total of 162 in 30 overs instead of their normal 200 run plus scores. After a short break, Chenies’ openers Emma Braddock and Samiha Bajpayee walked onto the pitch. Despite a quick first wicket, Emma and Aarushe stabilised and built a 46-run partnership. However, things soon took a turn for the worse as Chenies lost wickets in quick succession. We were six wickets down, halfway through the 20th over when Gurleen walked out to bat. Emily and Gurleen build a 38-run partnership, taking Chenies past the 100-run mark. Unfortunately it seems the odds were in Slough’s favour that day, as Chenies eventually fell short of the target, ending the day on a total of 111-9. Despite the humidity and difficult conditions, Chenies showed incredible determination and sports(wo)manship.

On Sunday XI took on a very strong Chesham Bois XI. We conceded 291 from our 40 overs with a wicket apiece for Bhavesh, Hrishi, 2 for Alex and another Sunday wicket for the prolific Sunday seamer L Marsden. A top order collapse saw the game slip away from us but a good returning knock of 41 from Nick Walker saw us post 118 all out from 32 overs. Overall, a good team performance against a very strong team.

Next week the 1st XI host High Wycombe 3s, the 2nd XI travel to Ickenham 4s and the 3rd XI are away against Uxbridge 5s. On Sunday the Women are away at Wargrave and the Sunday XI host Fleet Street Strollers.

For a few years our bar has been in decline. In order to drive greater use of the bar and to revive the social scene at the club we have partnered with a local company called Beer Nuts (previously proprietors of the craft beer establishment in Little Chalfont). They will be supplying beer to the club and sorting out our beer delivery system to ensure that we can avail ourselves of some quality beer. There will also be events and longer opening hours, especially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Chenies 6-aside cricket tournament is confirmed for Sunday 25th August. Its an intra-club tournament and has been a great success over the past 2 years. Would be great to have as many players as possible

An intra club Fantasy Cricket game has been set up by Alex Walker. These are great fun – you just pick a team of 6 from the club’s players and see how their points rack up for your team based upon performances. Entry is just £5. Go to http://chenies-latimer.fantasyclubcricket.co.uk/. The prices of players are based SOLELY off of last year’s performance in league games , irrespective of which team you are in.
