On Saturday, Chenies 1st XI took on High Wycombe 3rd XI at home. High Wycombe won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening bowlers of Alex Walker and Tom Horsburgh bowled well, it took High Wycombe until the 6th over of the game to score their first runs. Chenies continued to bowl well, restricting High Wycombe to 38-4 off 16 overs. But their late middle order rallied and High Wycombe ended on 252-7 off their 52 overs with four bowlers taking wickets. Tom Horsburgh took 4 and Alex Walker, Ayan Patel and Roshan Dias took 1 each. Chenies started quickly with the bat before Alex Martin fell. Stefan Saleem anchored the innings scoring an important century, taking his tally for the season up to 3, ending on 102 not out. Luke Marsden scored 36 not out in an important partnership with Stefan to get Chenies up to 209-6 off their 48 overs, drawing the game. Congratulations to Ayan Patel and Punith Wijersiri for their first caps in the 1st XI.
The 2nd XI, with a severely depleted side , visited Ickenham on a lovely afternoon and had a good game considering the side we had. We won the toss and with having enough bowling options we decided to field and started well keeping the score down but not taking any early wickets. Good opening bowling from Max Higginbotham beat the bat but didn’t provide the wickets we needed and we finally broke through by Fred Rodwell . Tidy bowling throughout with 2 wickets for Fred Rodwell , 3 wickets from Brian Shipley and very steady bowling from Anosh Mahawaduge at the end when no. 8 came in and hit out very effectively in the last 4/5 overs leaving a score at tea of 235 for 7 . The feilding was good and only a couple of possible catches not taken. Disappointing that we didn’t keep the score down below 200 but hard hitting meant they scored heavily at the death . Our inning started well and progressed along to 40 before Bill Mead retired to a hamstring injury and then everyone scored, but no one took control and we fell below the run rate and ended up 182 for 7 . Considering the line up and lack of batting available , we performed as well, or even better than expected, and look forward to strengthening the side for this coming weekend away to Boyne Hill .
On a pleasant sunny day, Uxbridge won the toss and put Chenies 3rd XI in to bat. Chenies opened with a cautious start against a disciplined bowling attack and on the sluggish overgrown outfield. Gaurav fell at 29 and then Mike and Ashish held the fort by achieving a 78 runs partnership. They managed to take the score to 168 for 6, a respectable and above par score for the ground. Mike getting 55 and supported by Ashish with 21. C&L opening bowlers, Vaibhav and Naveen were quick to get into rhythm and bowled with consistent pace and bounce to rattle the Uxbridge top order by picking up wickets at regular intervals. Vaibhav got his best spell of 2 for 21 in 8 overs and was supported by Naveen from the other end. Kaneel (1 for 19), Harsh (2 for 28), Ashish (2 for 19) and Satish (2 for 14) then took charge, taking regular wickets while keeping the run rate under control. Uxbridge's tail wagged for a bit to make the match closer than it should have been, nonetheless, in the end, it was a comfortable successive victory for C&L 3rd XI by 22 runs and strengthening our position on the league table. Special mention to Mike taking a splendid blinder at slip to get one of their strong batters out and Satish for taking a single handed slap (c&b) by one of their hard hitters to turn the game around in Chenies' favour. Once again a true team performance by team demonstrating excellence in all three attributes - batting, bowling and fielding.
On Sunday the Women XI travelled to Wargrave CC. It was a warm start in the field and Chenies bowled the first innings. The ladies were joined by debutants Izzy Banks and Isabella Mattar Peake. Both were great additions to the team with Isabella getting 2 wickets and Izzy had a skilful catch plus took 1 wicket. Wargrave played a good start in the first innings, with a strong first batter. But the energy from Chenies really picked up for the second half as confidence grew and Chenies proceeded to successfully churn through the remaining batters. We had great team work in the field. All bowlers showed a real sense of intention, with particular precision demonstrated by Emily (4-34) and Gurleen (2-12). Emily could have had a hat-trick but dropped the catch herself off the hat-trick ball. We saw some energetic chasing at the boundaries by Aemelia and Shayna and fantastic catches by Izzy and Bindi. The fielders were also supported by focused wicket keeping from Avani who was consistently on point and importantly caught one of the batters out. After a very long first innings, Chenies were able to feel optimistic after bowling out Wargrave in 31 overs with 182 runs to beat. In the second innings, our openers Samiha and Emily brought a really positive start to the chase. Samiha scored 26 before being caught out. Emily was then joined by Avani who brought some fresh energy to the field. They were a great pair, and Emily was building up runs nicely until this was cut short when caught out on 42. Shayna followed, but was sadly caught out after only a few runs under her belt. Twisha headed out next but was also caught out too soon. Gurleen then headed out to the middle despite her knee injury obtained earlier on in the game and joined Avani. Their union was also brief as Avani was stumped out shortly after despite her truly determined approach. Izzy came into the crease next showing relentless energy to pick up runs for the team. Emily simultaneously showed timely partnership and headed out to support Gurleen and run for her. Emily’s support was strong willed, but the confusion of a runner caused Gurleen to be run-out. Aemelia then joined Izzy in the field and built up a good amount of runs but became another victim of some crazy running between the wickets. Isabella headed out for the last few overs until the game was brought to an end when Izzy was the last to be dimissed. Chenies were left with a final score of 156 and although this did not win the game, the team as a collective had many “wins” to be proud of.

On Sunday the Sunday XI took on Fleet Street Strollers at the CCG. Chenies won the toss and decided to bat. It was a 40 over match and Chenies only managed to score 126, bowled out within 36 overs. Top scorer was Mike Pickard with 36 and opener Shan Patel batted well for 18 runs. Roshan Dias at number three got 20 runs. The oppo knocked off the runs in 20 overs only losing only one wicket, taken by Kaneel Mathurata. We had two under 13 boys, Luke and Reyan who both bowled well on the longer pitch length.

For a few years our bar has been in decline. In order to drive greater use of the bar and to revive the social scene at the club we have partnered with a local company called Beer Nuts (previously proprietors of the craft beer establishment in Little Chalfont). They will be supplying beer to the club and sorting out our beer delivery system to ensure that we can avail ourselves of some quality beer. There will also be events and longer opening hours, especially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
